About LatosD

Times are tough. I know, I sit here and wonder who could help that doesn't need help themselves. Well here's my story.

I married a woman who was the mother of my kids. The are lovely kids. Smart, fun and full of life. We moved up North for a better life, sometimes it seemed to be working. It worked wonders on me, I became a better father and husband and saw what love was all about.

2 years ago I left my wife when I couldn't deal with the physical and mental abuse any longer. It was over a year before I was able to see my kids again. But I continued on. I got to see them for a weekend about seven months ago. That was the last I saw them. I miss them.

I have a wonderful woman in my life. Over the oast two years we have rescued animal in need of a home and caring. Currently we have 4 dogs, 9 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 ferrets, 3 snakes and a spider(yuck) all rescues. We want more than anything to get our life going in a nice place and one day open a rescue of our own.

Currently though the economt is hitting hard. I am going north again for the promise of a better life. It's going to be hard though. So here I am, a broken and lonely father, a strong and supportive spouse, asking, pleading for help.

They say every little but helps and I would agree. I am going to the Westmoreland County, Pa area. Funds are tight and I could use every little bit. Donations of any kind are welcome, funds, maybe someone wants to donate a house(how cool would that be), pet supplies, transportation, a kitchen sink. Every little bit helps.

I know times are tough, that's why I am here. Why are you here?

Tennessee Pet Food Assistance Programs

During these hard economic times, many folks are having a hard time making ends meet. It's hard enough to put food on the table for your family and some are having to make the difficult plight of not being able to feed their furry family members. We've compiled a list of organizations and programs that will help provide pet food for low income families, helping to keep pets in their loving homes.

If you know of other companies or agencies that are not included on this list, then please send us their info. Thanks for your support!

About Suzanna McMahan

I am volunteering for a new animal shelter in Madison, Mississippi that just "unofficially" opened to take in animals from the Gulf Coast thanks to Hurricane Gustav.  We are not taking in any animals for the next 6 months, but we are open for adoptions.

But we still need volunteers and donations.

Tasks for volunteers, depending on what the volunteer wants to do, can include physical (walking the dogs, playing wth cats, cleaning cages, washing and disinfecting bowls/toys/towels) and/or mental tasks (writing grants, creating policies).

We take in any donations, but was we are always in need of ( besides the obvious [money & gift cards] ) is:

           1) GMRS/FRS Walkie Talkies (At least 4; would like 10) ***Most URGENT Need***

           2) Vacuum & Industrial mops with Rolling buckets

           3) Drills & Tool Kits

           4) Office Furniture including folding tables (all sizes), desks, chairs, trash baskets & trash bags

           5) Pallets

           6) Slip Leashes, Collars, Harnesses & Beds

           7) Office Supplies (paper of all kinds, Pentium III/equivalent computer or better for our shelter database), software, digital camera, scanners, printers, copiers, clip boards & 5 small/medium and 2 large dry erase boards

           8) Industrial Shelving (capable of supporting many 40 lb bags of pet food and other heavy items; must be waterproof)

           10) Trash Cans (5 Large Galvanized with lids; several large outdoor with wheels; lots of small/medium office-sized)

If you don't live in or near Madison County, Mississippi - please consider helping us in any way you can and we will thank you a million times for it!!!  If you do live near Madison and love spending time with sweet dogs and/or spunky cats, please come over and spoil them rotten!  You can find us at:

Hello everyone, My name is Jackie, I am a single mother, my daughter and I save kittens, cats, dogs, whatever is in need and whenever we have room, at the moment we have 9 kittens, some of which are promised to good homes as soon as they are healthy enough and we have several adults, all of which that have been spayed and neutered, I think all pets should be spayed or neutered, we have too many lovely animals and not enough people to care and love them. We do our best, I am disabled and on a fixed income, my daughter is getting ready for her Senior Year and things are already getting strained, but as long as we have our health, shelter, food and love we are very very blessed.  We live day to day and try not to live beyond our means, but I know how hard it can be.  We recieve no donations because we are not an organization, we are a no kill household, we only have one shelter an hour or longer drive from our home and after 30 days they put them to sleep, no exceptions.

Aidpage group discussing "animal"...

Feel free to participate in this public group space.

Two easy ways to do this:

  1. Add a comment or a question here - on this page... or on any other page in this space.
  2. Or, if you want to start a separate thread - make a new page.

Either way is good - the important thing is your participation. On Aidpage, people support each other by speaking out and by paying attention to each other - as simple as that.

Help for dog lover

Hi,

I am really in need of help right now and I hope a miracle will come my way. My dog of 12 years has an abscess tooth, which is broken. She needs to have the tooth pulled, as she is very swollen under her eye. The vet says that there are three roots to the tooth, and she can only see one. She will need x-rays and will have to do surgery on her to pull the abscess tooth. Total cost will run me over $400. That's a big problem, since I'm barely making ends meet now. I can't even miss some bills to get this done for her because I'm just too tight financially.

Are there any pet lover's out there willing to help? I can up load pics later on, as well as post exactly what the vet said if anyone needs proof this request is for real.

Thank you to everyone who send their thoughts.

Save Levi

With Love From Levi

Levi is suffering with seizures and has been strongly advised to have a CAT scan and spinal fluid tap to find the cause.

First things first: Hello!  My name is Carol and I am writing for my 2 year old puppy, Levi.  I saw him in a pet store window when he was five months old (the oldest puppy there)- a mix of Lord only knows and he stole my heart with his bright blue eyes and bounds of energy.  He is my first dog and I can honestly say I had no idea what I was getting into.  (Does anybody really?!)  He's been patient with me though, and he has taught me about truly selfless love.

How it started: In October last year Levi had his first seizure.  After seeing the vet I was told that it may be the only one he ever has and was sent home.  In November he had the second.  That one was over thirty minutes of back to back legs thrashing, lips curled over teeth, buckets of drool pouring out of his mouth, followed by very heavy breathing technically called Grand Mal seizures.  He was immediately put on an anti-seizure drug, Phenobarbital, with regular check ups.  In December he had another, and another on January 1st.

The last weekend in January he had 9 grand mal seizures in three days.  I took him to the emergency vet clinic Sunday night but didn't have the 800 dollars they were going to charge for me to leave him there over night for medicine and care.  I took him home then to the vet on Monday and was sent home with a higher dose of Phenobarbital.  Tuesday morning when I was getting ready for work in the morning I noticed facial ticks and body shakes - what is medically called Petit Mal seizures.  I took him to the vet again - in the 7 minute ride to the vet he had two in the car and waiting to see the vet he had countless more.  He was put on Potassium Bromide as a supplement to the Phenobarbital as well as Diazepam - or Valium.  They convinced me to keep him overnight.  The next day I called an animal neurologist and made an appointment.  It was at that appointment 3 days later that I found out my dog had not only been misdiagnosed as Epileptic but was also taking medicine that was toxic to him.

He still needs tests to find out what the cause of the seizures are, but thankfully he is taking seizure medicine that is not toxic for him.  The tests that need to be run are between 2 and 3 thousand dollars.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Friday July 29th: As an update Levi was doing much better for aproximately a month and a half but the seizures have returned and the need to get levi the test is increasing.  The money that has been generously donated thorough pop cans as well as monetary donations has been instramental in getting Levi his daily medicine and frequent follow-up tests he needs to check his blood and Potassiam Bromide levels.

Levi had another seizure this morning and the test that the money is being raised for would scan his brain and spine to see if the cause can be found there.  The neurologist believes this will answer the big question as to what is causing these seizures.

Community caring: I am 25 and just starting out at my first 9 to 5 job.  I have spent everything I had saved and have run out of funds.  That doesn't mean that I have run out of hope or willpower to do everything I can for Levi.  I mentioned at work that I was thinking of a bake sale and I was given the idea for a can/bottle drive.  That same day I was given 66 dollars in cans to return from employees at the market research company I work for.  The next day an anonymous donor put 150 dollars on my account at the vet neurologist I was going to see on Saturday.  I have posted well over 700 fliers on doors in and around the neighborhood I live in and was given over 800 dollars in both can/bottle donations and money with encouraging notes and letters (one of notes mentioned this website to check out).  I am so appreciative for each and every thoughtful word and donation!

What more could I ask: If you are looking at this website because of a flier I put on your door, thank you.  Any amount of cans or bottles helps a great deal!  As an update - I have been out posting fliers for Levi four weekends.  The last time I was out - in mid-may was the best weekend yet.  It is so encouraging to see the gap between the cost and the total amount raised get smaller.

Monetary contributions are, of course, welcome and necessary to get Levi the help he needs.  The neurosurgeon said the CAT scan and Spinal Fluid Tap will cost anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 dollars.  The animal hospital has an account there, if you would like to donate directly to Oakland Veterinary Referral Services, "OVRS", please call them at 248-334-6877.  I believe you will need to know my name, Carol Denton, and please mention that the donation is for Levi.  I also have a PO box for anyone who would like to make a contribution through US mail.  The address is:

Carol Denton - PO Box 1033 - Union Lake, MI 48387

Kind words of encouragement or suggestions on other money raising ideas would also be welcome and very helpful. Feel free to contact me through US mail or email me at helplevi@hotmail.com

Hope: I know the road ahead is a long one, but with faith and a lot of work Levi and I will both make it out at the end, stronger, happier, and much more healthy.

My cat is fatally sick- HELP!!

My cat has been through a lot. Coming to me after being a shelter cat, I can`t even pretend to know the hardships she had before I rescued her 8 years ago. She is now 12 years old, and has a deadly disease.

I must have gone through half a dozen vets, all of them telling me that they "arent quite sure if there`s anything wrong with her". They ran full diagnosis test, including blood, urine, fecese x-rays, you name it. Nothing! I must have spent over $3,000 on this, and noone is telling me exactly what is wrong. Until recently. Cryptoccus Neoformans- an extremely rare and DEADLY disease which is contracted from a fungus in PIGEON DROPPINGS... now that makes NO sense whatsoever since my cat is strictly an indoor cat and has NO contact with any other animals.

The cost of this medication is extreme. I got laid off and can barely make enough to feed us right now- especially with all the costs of just finding out the diagnosis. I don`t want my cat to suffer- she has constant diarreah, breaths SO heavily, coughs, and now there`s blood in her stool. I don`t want to put her to sleep. I love her, care about her, and need desperately for us to get through this illness so she can continue to be her normal affectionate spunky self. I just need enough to pay for her 2 month supply(over $700), and then after that i`m pretty sure i`ll have another job and be back on my feet enough to pay for any other costs.

Please Please Please help us! I`m mortified that I might lose my best friend just because I can`t pay for her medication. Anything would help greatly, and would be very appreciated. You can contact me at slana497@aol.com

Thank you.
